Joe Lieberman. Why is he still in the democratic party?

Joe Lieberman continues to be a strong ally of Bush. He continues with the regular pro-war propaganda and misleading statements. Why is this guy still in the democratic party?

Mr. Lieberman, please leave the democratic party and go to the republican party and the neoconservatives where you belong. We had enough of you.

Bush Approval Ratings

Latest poll from the American Research Group shows that only 36% approve his job as a president, 58% disapprove and 6% are undecided. Regarding the way he is handling the economy, only 31% (!) approve and 62% disapprove.

I think that the president can not be particularly proud with these poll numbers, but who knows? It all depends on how Karl Rove will interpret them and present them to him.

Cool picture

Someone sent me this cool picture....

Bush: Iraq Withdrawal Would Be a Mistake

The president said today that a withdrawal from Iraq would be a mistake. Well, who is he to talk about mistakes? Not only did he make a huge error to start the Iraq war, but he also had to mislead the nation and use false intelligence to achieve that.

Mr. President, sorry but the American people dont trust your judgement anymore, especially for critical issues such as this one. Your approval ratings are barely 34%, and 68% of Americans believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction. Is probably about time that you listen to war heroes like congressman Murtha who have called for a gradual withdrawal from Iraq. Is about time Mr. President. The country can not afford any more of your wrong calls and mistakes.

Top aide of Colin Powell accuses Cheney on prisoner abuse

Col Wilkenson, a top aide to former Secretary of State Colin Powell accused Vice president Cheney of ignoring a decision by Bush on the treatment of prisoners in the war on terror.

If thats true, Cheney ignored Bush in this case. I guess thats not so surprising. What would have been very surprising would have been the reverse.

The culture of corruption in the republican party

Another incident of corruption in the republican party. Congressman Randy Cunningham pleaded guilty to conspiracy and tax evasion and faces up to 10 years in prison.

Whats wrong with the republican party of today? This was supposed to be the party of "moral values". Apparently the say "power corrupts and absolute power absolutely corrupts" is very accurate, especially as it relates to republicans. Hopefully in 2006 they will loose their absolute power in congress and that way they will have less problems. I mean less corruption.

Remarkable...

Ayad Allawi, a secular Shiite Muslim, told the London newspaper The Observer that fellow Shiites are responsible for death squads and secret torture centers and that the brutality by elements of Iraqi security forces rivals that of Saddam's secret police.

Of course that could be a rumor or someone saying crazy things, except that Ayad Allawi was until recently the prime minister of Iraq and a strong ally of the Bush administration. It seems more and more that Iraq is even more messy and chaotic than we can imagine. This is really remarkable.

GOP members pick Lieberman as favorite Democrat

The National Journal in Washington asked members of Congress and lobbyists which of the Democratic senators they admire. Among the 89 Republicans who responded, the easy winner was senator Lieberman.

It figures. When is he supposed to be running again for re-election? I hope that the democrats in Connecticut vote him out. He fits much better in the GOP.

Iraq

As things remain chaotic in Iraq, some democrats like rep. Murtha and Dicks have raised the possibility of a gradual withdrawal. The number of people who are willing to criticize the Iraq war has increased dramatically and the majority of the country now thinks that the war was a mistake. So, what should be the next move? Pull out as soon as possible or stay the course as the administration and some democrats still advocate? Is there another way that may work best for our interests?

How about openly acknowledging that getting into Iraq was a huge error? That would be obviously a hard thing to do, but it may be in our best interests. Why? For a few reasons:

1. It's the truth.

2. It will reassure the Europeans and the rest of the western allies that we are not as crazy as they originally thought and will restore some confidence in our judgement.

3. Importantly, it may help to convince some of them to play a role in the creation of a multiethnic force (controlled by the United Nations) to stay in the country for some time immediately after our withdrawal.

Of course one can argue that such an acknowledgement will be simply embarassing and will not work. But what alternative is better? We either leave as soon as possible or we stay. And if we stay we will leave later after more people die.

There is simply no good solution. However, if the administration acknowledges their huge error in judgement, it may make our exit from Iraq less painful. In fact, it may be be the first good thing Bush did for the country.

Whats the problem with Ann Coulter?

Ann Coulter has achieved something very few achieve. She has gone so far to the extreme right, that even wingnuts think she is out of line and a lunatic. The remarkable thing with her is that she can always find ways to go further to the extreme and offensive. This time she wrote an article entitled "NEW IDEA FOR ABORTION PARTY: AID THE ENEMY" where she pretty much accuses the democrats of being traitors. In that article she makes some bizzare statements, like "The Democrats are giving aid and comfort to the enemy for no purpose other than giving aid and comfort to the enemy". The obvious question is does she believe what she writes? Is she really delusional? or does she deliberately make extreme bizzare statements for the simple purpose of attracting attention?

I am becoming more and more convinced that she is not delusional and she deliberately says big lies to attract attention. She is certainly not stupid and she is generally well-informed. She knows that the more extreme and bizzare things she says, the more attention she will get and the more books she will sell. I dont even think she has any political orientation. She says she is a "conservative", but I personally believe that she is completely apolitical and does not care about anything. All she cares is to sound as extreme and weird as possible. She is a joke and she is certainly not worth getting upset for. Her only power is the attraction she gets for her statements. Dont give her that power. Ignore her.

Nice Picture

Shakespeare's sister has a real nice picture.

Congressman Norm Dicks changes his mind about the Iraq war

Another hawkish Democrat now says that the Iraq war was a mistake. Of course and it was a mistake. It would have helped if he and others had realized it a little earlier. But better late than ever.

George Best dies

For soccer funs, today is a sad day. George Best, one of the best players ever, died in London from complications of liver transplant. He was a very famous player of Manchester United who retired at a young age. Clearly one of the best players of all times.

I would not be surprised...

if the Bush administration hires, via a private subcontract, this new firm to help with the planning of the Iraq war. After all, the head of this new firm has been all along loyal to the president and did a hell of a job during the response to hurricane Katrina.

A hawkish democrat who changed his mind

The Washington post has a very interesting article today about John P. Murtha. Clearly, his change of mind about the Iraq war is a major problem for the administration. After all, he is (was) a friend of Vice-President Cheney.

New Ad from MoveOn.org

This ad from MoveOn.org is certainly worth supporting.

Double Crossed?

Blair double-crossed? Joe Wilson said in a recent interview that he believes that the White House double-crossed Tony Blair during the preparation of the Iraq war. Is that surprising? He is certainly not the only one.

Finally

Murderous ex-dictator and fascist August Pinochet was arrested again. This time a Chilean judge charged him for the disappearance of dissidents in 1974 . Several thousands were killed under Pinochet's fascist dictatorship in 1973-1990 in Chile, but he was still out free. Hopefully this time he will be tried for his crimes against humanity.

Foreign languages

If you want to learn foreign languages, here is a Dictionary of Republicanisms.

Thanksgiving in Iraq

On Thanksgiving day in Iraq. Why are we still there? Congressman Murtha is right. Lets bring our soldiers back home. Soon.

Thanksgiving in Crawford Texas

It appears that president Bush will have company during the Thanksgiving holiday. Will he be kind enough to invite the protesters inside his ranch for dinner? Somehow I doubt it.

Pinochet arrested

Augusto Pinochet was arrested on tax fraud charges. Thats something, BUT why was this guy still out free? He was a murderous dictator and one of the worst criminals in history. He has been responsible for the murders of thousands of Chileans. He should have been tried for his crimes long time ago.

Blue Map

Daily Kos has a nice Blue Map of the country, based on approval rating numbers for the president.

Lies and more lies

It is becoming some sort of an "ultra-right republican culture". Keep lying and at the end someone may believe something. A new example: Rep. Jean Schmidt said in the House floor on Friday that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do". That was supposed to be what a former marine, Danny Bubp, had told her.
Well, that was a big lie

Corruption

The corruption in the republican party of today is remarkable. What are we going to find next? Hopefully voters will remember this in 2006 and 2008.

Bush and Nixon

There is no question that the president is in big political trouble. Most Americans oppose his policies in Iraq and the economy, and they dont share his conservative views. The corruption and scandals make things even worse. So will Bush complete his second term or will be forced like Nixon to resign ? Everything suggests that Bush will have the same fate with Nixon. Why? For the following reasons:

1. The Plamegate is clearly worse than Watergate was.

2. The negative feelings of the majority of the country towards the Iraq war are similar to the ones towards the Vietnam war when Nixon resigned.

3. Bush is completely isolated and distanced from reality. Karl Rove is his brain, but he is in serious trouble and may be impeached.
