Italy Crushes Ukraine

The Italian team crushed Ukraine 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the world cup. A well-deserved victory. I hope they keep going like that and win the world cup!

This blog has endorsed the Italian team in the world cup, in honor of Italy and the Italians, for getting read of the corrupt Berlusconi administration in the last elections. Viva Italia!

Lieberman Losing Support Among Elected Democrats

The imploding of the Joe Lieberman campaign in Connecticut may have just started. After Russ Feingold who made crystal-clear that he does not support Lieberman in the primary against Lamont, Jack Murtha also indicated that he would not support Joe Lieberman in his re-election bid, unless he changes his position on the Iraq war.

I hope that Hillary and Obama will also reverse their support for Lieberman and soon. Supporting someone like Lieberman will hurt them politically in the future, as it shows that they only care about making sure that their buddies in the senate get re-elected and not for the real issues. Of course, Hillary can argue that she is also pro-Iraq war like Lieberman is, but Obama can not. Obama's positions are much closer to Ned Lamont's, and his endorsement of Lieberman in the past does not speak well about him at all. I hope that he will realize his error quickly and he will retract his support for Lieberman soon.

It is now clear that Lieberman will lose that race and his senate seat. The only question is who else will be hurt politically in the process.

Ned Lamont

I guess thats where my last donation to Ned Lamont's campaign went. The guy is great and he will be elected senator soon.

Love

These guys really love Joe Lieberman.

Cheating French and a victory that was not desrved

Dont take me wrong, I have nothing against the French. But I am upset with the soccer team of France. Why? Because yesterday they won the game in the world cup against Spain (3-1). But they did not deserve to win. In fact they only won because of the cheating of one French player (Thierry Henry), who pretended he was hit by a spaniard player. The Italian referee did not see the incident well and he believed the faking French player. That resulted in a free-kick that ended up in a goal for France. Up to that point Spain was playing better and the game was tied 1-1. The goal came at a critical moment (81 st minute) and changed everything.

I happened to be among the minority of Americans who understand soccer well and like and watch the game. Yesterday I was watching the France -Spain game and I ve seen in slow motion the specific incident. There is no question that the French player was NOT hit. He simply cheated and the best team, Spain, is now kicked out of the quarterfinals. What a shame. France did not deserve to advance. But Brazil will take care of them in the next round. Even if all the French players cheat altogether and the referee believes all of them, they still will not be able to win over Brazil.

New Ad: Lieberman As The Voice of Bush

There is a new ad from the Lamont Campaign that depicts Joe Lieberman for what he really is: the voice of George W. Bush.

These days are not great for Lieberman. On Sunday Russ Feingold refused to endorse him on Meet the Press and made clear that his positions are closer to Ned Lamont's. He also made clear that he will support the democratic nominee, whoever that may be.

We believe that Lieberman makes a huge error for his interests by participating in the democratic primary. He will be defeated and then he will lose the race in November, even if he runs as an independent then. His best chance is if he leaves the democratic party now and runs as an independent. Anyway, Connecticut will have soon a great new senator: Ned Lamont.

Clashes between England and Germany

In soccer, of course.
English fans clash with German fans. And the funny thing is that their teams have not yet played against each other in the world cup. In fact, they may or may not play, depending on who makes it to the semifinals. I guess the fact that both countries are members of NATO does not matter to soccer funs.

Lieberman Voting With The Republicans (Of Course)

Senator Lieberman was among the very few democrats that voted against the Levin ammendment and in favor of continuing to support the disastrous Iraq war that the Bush administration unnecessarily created. Great.

Of course how could one expect better from Lieberman? The good news is that Lieberman is on his way to retirement soon and Bush and the republicans will lose a reliable ally for their disastrous plans.
Ned Lamont will be very different on such important issues.

Ned Lamont Gaining Momentum and Endorsements

Ned Lamont's campaign is doing great. He keeps getting important endorsements . I think it is becoming more clear every day that Ned Lamont will be the next democratic senator from Connecticut.

Rasmussen: Lieberman might be better off running as an Independent

That says it all. The question is when will Lieberman leave the democratic party. Before or after the primary?

Barbara Boxer. Is she ok?

I really dont get it with Barbara Boxer. She has been one of my most favorite senators. But I started having doubts about how intelligent she is. Why? She apparently supports the re-election of Joe Lieberman, and in Lieberman's campaign site she is listed as a "Joe supporter" with this quote:

"I have seen first hand Joe Lieberman's tireless work to protect our air, water, land and other precious resources."

Anyway, I still like her despite that, because I dont think she does it for personal gains. She is clearly one of the most liberal senators and a person of very high integrity. I simply start questionning if she is out of touch with reality. Lieberman is terrible for the democratic party and should (and will) lose the election. The positions of Boxer are in reality very anti-Lieberman, but she seems to be naive enough to support him because he comes across as a nice guy? What's her problem?

USA-Italy = 1-1

That was a huge surpise today. Team USA played very well and was able to draw a tie in this game with Italy. In the first half the US team was remarkably good, and clearly more threatening than the Italians. Italy was pretty bad today and, based on today's performance, I dont think they will go far in this world cup.

I should also point out that the coverage from ABC was not great. The commentators kept blaming the poor referee for inappropriately giving 2 red cards to US players (he also gave a red card to an Italian). I think all red cards were justified and the referee did an adequate job. Anyway, I dont think we will make it to the next round because it will be impossible to beat Ghana that stunned everybody today by winning the Czechs 2-0. But the US team proved that they can play good soccer against a soccer superpower, like the Italians.

Lieberman-Lamont Debate

Lieberman must be in bigger trouble than we originally thought. All of the sudden he agreed to debate Ned Lamont. There is no question that this is a reflection of major weakness by the Lieberman campaign. It will be real fun to watch this debate. The departing ex-senator and the incomming new senator from Connecticut.

UPDATE (7/6/2006): The debate will be broadcasted live on TV at 7PM EST today. For more information go here .

UPDATE 9 PM: The debate is over. Here is what we think of the outcome.

Bill O' Reilly Endorses Lieberman

Apparently Bill O'Reilly just endorsed Lieberman for the Connecticut Democratic primary. In the past Sean Hannity has also. Now, all Lieberman needs is an endorsement from Ann Coulter, and then he will win for sure.

Ann Coulter: The Spiritual Leader Of The Republican Party

I was watching CNBC last night and guess who was on? Ann Coulter of course. Talking about her new book of course. And something very obvious appeared to me then. There has not been a single member of this administration or high-ranking republican member of the senate that has condemned her. Not one (1).

In fact, when she gives interviews conservative-republican commentators are generally careful to make clear that they agree with her messages, but not the way she presents them. Some others like Hannity are openly supportive of her. Last night Coulter said something like there is a "mental illness" or something similar from which liberals suffer. She also explained how "liberalism" is the equivalent of some sort of religion or anti-religion or something bizzare like that.

So, whats going here? We have a bizzare person, Ann Coulter, who is a self pro-claimed conservative that openly makes anti-American statements (like the one attacking the victims of 9/11) and promotes bigotry and hate. And the republican party does not dare to condemn her!!!! The whole thing is remarkable. No matter how bizzare and out of touch with reality Coulter is, she makes it routinely in TV stations to express her lunatic theories and the republican base listens to her.

It is about time that the leaders of the republican party divorce themselves from her. You can not say that you are patriotic and you promote democracy, as the republicans do, and at the same time have a bizzare person like Coulter speaking in the name of conservatism. American democracy and patriotism are clearly incompatible with Ann Coulter's theories and statements.

She Is Ugly

I dont understand why they dont answer the simple question of Chris Matthews. It is an easy one: She is simply ugly.

Republican Chickenhawks

This sort of guys advocate to continue the disastrous Iraq war. Tough guys, huh?

It is kind of scary to think that these two are in the "inner-circle" of the president.

Most Recent Lamont-Lieberman Poll

Last poll from today:

Lieberman 46 Lamont 40

More information here

And we all know how committed Lamont voters are versus Lieberman voters. Soon to be ex-senator Lieberman will be looking for a job soon. However, I dont think it will be easy for him to find a good job. Most of the country is democratic now and democrats dont like him.

Karl Rove Escapes Prosecution

And as the Nation puts it....lying is not illegal. Anyway, Rove is a smart guy and it is not surprising that he escaped the investigation. Too bad this guy does not work for the democrats. We would have a democratic administration now.

The question is not if.....

....but when will Joe Lieberman leave the democtratic party? It is only a matter of time...

USA-Czech Republic = 0-3

Unfortunately we lost 0-3 in the first game in the world cup soccer. However, the Czech Republic is probably the best team in the world cup. In fact I think they are better than Brazil and they have a real good chance in winning the world cup.

The Party of Ann Coulter, Tom DeLay, and Jerry Falwell

Thats the republican party of today. The party of bigotry, corruption and religious lunatics. Oh, sorry I forgot it is also the party of lies (George Bush).

It is about time that the democrats start calling it for what it really is. They have to be more aggressive in attacking the republican party. The democrats can win in a landslide in the fall, BUT only if they define aggressively the focus of the election.

I am not convinced that the democrats are doing a good job at this time. The leadership has to move more to the left (yes further to the left) and attack the wingnuts constantly. The republican party is at the edge of a huge collapse. But such collapse will only happen if the democrats become more aggressive. Like the republicans were in 1993.

Lieberman in his last few weeks in the senate

Joe Lieberman must be in a very bad mood. The last poll shows that Lamont has closed the gap and he is now real close to Lieberman among democratic Connecticut voters (55-40). And this despite the fact that most voters are not familiar with Lamont.

So, we predict that by August Lamont will be leading the race and will win the election.

Senator Lieberman is in his last few weeks in the senate and we have some advise for him:

"Dont waist your time in the campaign senator. You will lose anyway. Instead focus your efforts in getting a job after your term in the senate is over. Update your curriculum vitae and talk to your references (VP Cheney and president Bush). Maybe Cheney will help you get a job in the oil industry. He has a lot of connections there."

An anti-american woman who happens to be a (certified) lunatic

I think it is now crystal-clear that Ann Coulter is anti-american. Such a hate for the victims of 911 is only consistent with intense antiamericanism... Her statement:

"I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s death so much" for the widows of men killed in the 911 attacks shows a deep hatred for american women, american values, and the country as a whole. To leave absolutely no doubt about her antiamerican feelings and her hatred towards women...she also made the brilliant statement "How do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies?"

Of course, one can argue that Ann Coulter is a lunatic, and in fact, she has a prominent spot in the updated list of certified lunatics that we generated in the past (along with the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is listed in the original list of certified lunatics ).

But whether she is crazy or not it's irrelevant. Insane or not, she is antiamerican. She is an antiamerican lunatic and there are a lot of those around the world.

George W. Bush and the Christian Right: Lets Send The Country 100 Years Back In Time

George W. Bush and the ultra-right theocrats that support his administration are doing their best to send the country 100 years back in time. Although it is obvious that the constitutional amendment to block gay marriage is simply pushed forward to distract attention from the real problems, it still reflects bigotry. It is another step to push the country backwards.

Of course there are a series of other things that also push the country backwards. For example, blocking stem cell research and promoting general theocratic beliefs. Oh, I forgot, the high gas prices that reflect the lack of energy policy of this administration may even push us faster back in time. For obvious reasons.

Trying To Change The Subject: Gay Marriage.

President Bush is trying to change the subject from the Iraq war and the overall incompetence of his administration.

Now he wants to focus again on social issues and wants to "ban gay marriage". What a looser. I hope that the main stream media will completely ignore that issue. We have very serious problems with the disastrous war in Iraq and the extreme incomptence of the Bush administration, and Karl Rove should not be allowed to do what he did successfully in the elections of 2004.

This is a non-issue because a bill to ban gay marriage will never pass in the senate. Most of the senators (with the exception of some far-right republican wingnuts and Ben Nelson) are rational and they know that they should not and can not do that. Bush and Rove know that well, but they want to focus public attention on that issue and distract from the real problems. I dont think it will work this time though.

War Crimes

It appears more and more that war crimes and atrocities have been committed in Iraq by some soldiers. Of course, we need to wait for the outcome of the investigations, but it is highly likely that that's the case based on what we know now.

This war was based on false intelligence and likely misrepresentation of the facts. This makes even more horrifying reading about war crimes, even when committed by a small group of soldiers. This war should had never been started. Hundreds of thousands of people would be alive today. There was absolutely no reason to go to war and anyone who thinks rationally can see that now.

The Iraq mess continues

The Iraq mess continues and is getting worse. We need to get out of there.

Ned Lamont for Senator

Horror

The BBC has new information and a video about the Iraq Massacre in Haditha. If this information is correct, we are talking about terrible atrocities committed by some soldiers.

There is no question that Rumsfeld should resign. We had enough of him. He has been a terrible failure. I think that at this point, even republicans would agree and support the need for the immediate replacement of Rumsfeld by a new secretary of defense.
