Spain and Germany

Spain has said it will go ahead with the sale of 12 military planes to Venezuela despite US objections .

The US has rejected a call by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, for the closure of its detention camp at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

It appears more and more that the Bush administration has little if any influence on traditional european allies. The damage done by this administration when they bluntly ignored europe at the beggining of the Iraq war has not been repaired. And it is unlikely to be repaired as along as Bush is president. The damage to the relationships with europe is one of the worst side-effects of the Bush presidency, but it is not mentioned frequently enough by the democrats.
