The destruction of the republican party

I am amazed with George W. Bush. He has done so much damage to the country, as no other president in history. He succeeded in creating a disaster out of nowhere in Iraq, in creating the largest deficit in our history, and in splitting the country along partisan lines. He has essentially damaged everything he has touched. He ignored the constitution, he damaged science, decreased funding for research, and so many other things that it would take several pages to write them down. But he still managed to surprise everybody by creating a new catastrophy. He destroyed the republican party!

There is no question that the republican party has been damaged irreperably by Bush at this time. In reality it is already split in 2 different parties. Bush pushed the party to the extreme far right and gave credibility and power to far right religious wingnuts like Robertson, Falwell and Dobson. The likes of these people and W have been controlling the agenda of that party and operating based on "spiritual inspirations". They essentially believe that God has been talking to them and drives their actions. The other component of the republican party, that is liked by the silent majority of republican voters, are secular rational republicans who simply dont like taxes. That group has lost power in the party and have been marginalized.

After yesterday, that party is in complete chaos. I am sure that the secular republicans are furious with Bush, and so are, likely, the wingnuts. It will take decades for the republican party to be unified again. I hope that the republican party is split in 2 new parties and that the rational republicans will take control of the main party and get rid of the bizzare extreme faction that has been controlling it over the last 6 years. Bush will not be president in 2 years, but the republican party will still be here in 2 years. It will be in the interest of the country and the world if it emerges as secular party that represents the mainstream of its voters.
