French Elections

The French are voting today. It is difficult to predict who will win, but I doubt that there will be major differences in French policy, no matter who the winner is. Although I dont like Chirac in particular, he has been a responsible figure in the international arena, and he tried his best to stop the disastrous Iraq war of Bush and Cheney.

I prefer that Ségolène Royal wins today. In fact, if she is elected president, she would be the first female president in France. Although Sarkozy is leading in the polls, anything can happen. If Sarkosy (who represents the classic French right) is elected, we will likely see continuation of the current Chirac policies.

I also hope that Jean-Marie LePen does not get more than 5% of the vote. He is a fascist and well-known antisemite that represents the neo-fascist movement in europe. He is an embarassment to France and the world and, hopefully, his numbers will stay in the single digits today.
