McCain's Waterloo

McCain was defeated badly by Huckabee yesterday in the Republican primaries in Kansas and Louisiana. Although, theoretically it appears that he will be the nominee of the republicans no matter what, that may change. If he keeps getting defeated in the next few races, he may well end up getting forced out at the national convention. Can you imagine a republican convention in which McCain as nominee is booed while giving an acceptance speech?

The problem with McCain is that the republicans will never trust him. It has nothing to do with ideology. To republicans McCain is the equivalent of what Joe Lieberman is to democrats. What we see now is equivalent to a situation in which the democratic party would elect Lieberman as a presidential candidate. And that shows exactly the disastrous situation of the republican party. It is a party that is finally imploding and braking in pieces for good reasons: Corruption, incompetence, greed and lack of principles. It is over. The republican party essentially no longer exists.
