IL-10:The imploding campaign of republican Mark Kirk

It seems that the campaign of republican congressman Mark Kirk in IL-10 is imploding. There are a few indicators of this. For starters, he is now behind in the polls (after a huge lead in the summer), and his democratic opponent Dan Seals has a clear momentum. But what convinced me yesterday that Mark Kirk's campaign is collapsing, is his new negative TV ad against Dan Seals. That ad that attacks Dan Seals is a big distortion and misrepresentation of facts that reflects the desperation of Mark Kirk, as he sees his congressional seat slipping away.

It seems that things got much worse for Kirk after the debate with Dan Seals. The performance of Kirk in the debate was not good. He clearly lost to Dan Seals, who came across as intelligent, informed and refreshing. Watching that debate, I thought Mark Kirk sounded more like his friend in the picture above, with whom he apparently shares common (right-wing) ideological values.

The truth is that Mark Kirk has not been a good congressman and he does not deserve to be re-elected. He has been a rubber stamp for Bush and the republican congress and he has even supported far-right wingnut initiatives like the intervention in the Terri Schiavo case. George Bush relies on congressmen like Mark Kirk, and thats exactly why Mark Kirk should not be re-elected. I am more and more confident that Dan Seals will be elected congressman from IL-10 on Tuesday.
