Bill, Hillary, and Lieberman

So Bill Clinton will campaign in Connecticut for Joe Lieberman. And the question is why? Does he really think that Joe Lieberman is a great senator? Of course not. After all Lieberman was the one who alligned with the republicans when they were trying to impeach Clinton. Moreover, Clinton has been very critical of the Iraq war, a war that Lieberman supports big time.

So, why? It is very simple. Clinton is in reality campaigning for Hillary-2008. He tries to show again and again that he and his wife are in the "center". They would like to appeal to all these republicans who love Lieberman.

I think Clinton will achieve his goal. There will be many republicans reminded how "centrists" the Clintons are and will remember that in 2008. On the other hand, Lieberman will not achieve his goal. As I wrote before, even if the Pope showed up in Hartdforf to campaign for Lieberman, he would still lose. The voters have decided to send him to retirement one way or the other.
