The war on vegetables

The Bush administration has declared a new war: The war on vegetables and dangerous vegetarians. The ACLU has released copies of government files on Wednesday that illustrate the extent to which the DeKalb County Division of Homeland Security and other government agencies have gone in fighting the war on vegetables. The photographs show 22-year-old Caitlin Childs of Atlanta, a strict vegetarian, and other vegans picketing against meat eating, in December 2003. They staged their protest outside a HoneyBaked Ham store on Buford Highway in DeKalb County. Childs and another vegan were subsequently subjected to false imprisonment, false arrest and harassment by officials of the Homeland Security Division of DeKalb County, according to the ACLU.

It comes as no surprise that, instead of focusing their efforts on terrorists, the Bush administration is targeting 22 year old vegans. We should keep in mind the incompetence factor. But can you imagine if Bush decides to expand the war on vegetables and dangerous vegetarians? For instance he could order the FBI to go after people who shop too many vegetables, or buy too many packs of boca burgers in the supermarkets. Or he could declare soy-products illegal and dangerous for the national security. The good news for me is that, although vegetarian, I am not a vegan. My guess is that the Bush administration will not go after lacto-vegetarians. I think that they will keep their focus on dangerous vegans.
