Democratic Senators That Support Lieberman Should Be Challenged In Primaries When They Are Up For Re-election
Enough is enough. The "democrats" in the senate that continue to support the neorepublican Lieberman against the democratic candidate, Ned Lamont, must understand that their actions will have consequences. I think it is about time that a message is sent to them that what they are doing is wrong, shameful, and antidemocratic.
I believe that liberal bloggers should consider raising money for real progressive democrats that will be willing to challenge them in democratic primaries when they come up for re-election. Among the "gang of 6" that has endorsed Lieberman (Landrieu, Pryor, Carper, Salazar, Ben Nelson and Inouye), 2 of them are up for re-election in 2006 (Carper and Ben Nelson) and it is too late to challnge them now. However, the other 4 will be up for re-election in 2008 and a consideration should be given to support real democrats that may consider running against them in the democratic primaries then.
Defeating Lieberman is extremely important, as it will define the future identity of the democratic party. The democratic senators who support him at this time clearly show that their loyalty is not with the democratic party but with an new obscure party called "Connectocut for Lieberman". They do not respect the support of democratic voters and I hope that real democrats will come out to challenge them when they are up for re-election.
